Cosmia pyralina ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan: 28-34mm

A univoltine species flying from June to the end of August when it is an occasional visitor to light and sugar. It has been recorded from Las Descargues and lights situated in or along the margins of the ridge woodland. A species of broadleaved woodland and hedgerows.

The larva feeds on Quercus, Populus, Betula, Tilia, Ulmus, Salix spp., it overwinters as an egg, feeds in early spring before pupating amongst plant detritus.
