Sitochroa palealis ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan: 29-34mm

A bivoltine species flying from May to September when it is an occasional visitor to light. Recorded from Las Descargues and the rough, calcareous grassland of the plateau and Causse wherever its foodplant is found.

The larva feeds in a coarse, tubular silken web in the seed-head of Daucas carota. The larva hibernates through the winter in a tough cocoon underground where pupation takes place in early spring.
